Unforgettable Experiences in an Extraordinary Place

Visitor Information

Tour OperatorsDo your itineraries include Tallahassee? If Florida’s capital is your destination or a stop on the way to any of the Gulf Coast’s attractions, you might be interested in learning more about Mission San Luis. Mission San Luis, a National Historic Landmark, is the only reconstructed 17th century mission in the Southeast. Located near I-10 in west Tallahassee, the site is easily accessible by motor coach. Whether you specialize in schools or affinity groups, San Luis will provide a memorable experience for your customers.

At Mission San Luis, meticulous reconstructions of Apalachee Indian and Spanish structures re-create a community that disappeared three centuries ago.  At over 120 feet in diameter, the council house is among the largest Indian structures ever built in the Southeast.  It wasn’t uncommon for the council house to hold 1,500 or more people in the 1690s.  We guarantee that smaller groups will find it just as magnificent today.

Tour OperatorsCostumed interpreters will welcome your groups and guide them on a visit to a place where time stands still. The skills and activities of the 17th century are demonstrated while the sights and sounds of mission life mingle with the smell of wood smoke. At Mission San Luis, the entire site is a classroom where lifelong learning and fun take place.

For the comfort of every visitor, accessibility is important at Mission San Luis. Mission San Luis has been recognized as fully compliant with ADA by the National Center on Accessibility. Our orientation video is closed captioned. The Visitor Center is pleased to offer exhibits and an audio tour in both English and Spanish.

We will also work with you to create custom regional itineraries that will link the Mission with the ageless attractions of “The Other Florida,” including glass bottom boat rides at Wakulla Springs State Park.  Next
