Notes:
Daub
Daub is clay that was used to plaster over walls made from a wattle framework. It was often mixed with organic material, such as Spanish moss, which acted as a temper to strengthen the clay.
At San Luis, daub is most commonly associated with Hispanic buildings. The fragments can be highly diagnostic and reveal much about a building: the size and orientation of its wattle framework; how the wattles were lashed together; the thickness of its walls; and whether or not it was whitewashed and/or burned.
