Notes:
Baptismal Font
The base of the limestone baptismal font at Mission San Luis was found inside the entrance to the church on the left-hand side, or Gospel side, of the church. This was a traditional location for a baptistry, which was signified only by the presence of the font and probably artwork, such as St. John the Baptist baptizing Christ.
Due to the porous nature of limestone, the base fractured into dozens of pieces over the 300 hundred years between the time San Luis was abandoned and the font was excavated.
